How big of a difference is there in the speeds between the two?
I am asking because a 2.1 GHz MacBook with 120GB hard drive and 2MB of memory comes out to $1089 with the education discount while a 2.4 GHz with 160GB hard drive and 2MB of memory comes out to $1199. I do not need the extra hard drive capacity nor the Superdrive. Is it worth the cost difference to get the 2.4 GHz versus the 2.1 with 2MB of memory?

You won't notice a difference if you're just surfing the web and typing.

2MB of memory!?!?! lies!!!! impossible haha

haha I wouldnt be able to do much of anything with 2MB of memory now would I?

edit: 2GB!

2.1ghz is $999 education discount
Personally, I'm going to go with the 2.4ghz because I want the extra drive space and superdrive. Most important, however, is the bump to 2gb memory.

If you want the 2.1ghz model, be sure to upgrade the memory yourself. You save money that way because 2gb memory is max $50, not $100.

For an extra $200 you get +1gb ram, +40gb hdd, +0.3ghz processor.

I'd say 2.4 Ghz. I take it you'd like to use this for all of college (or at least most of it?)?

Better pay a little extra now and get all those goodies =)

Do yourself a favor and just go for the 2.1 Ghz and buy the 2G ram separately through newegg.com--You'll save a lot of money and there's barely any difference between .3Ghz, really.

Do you think it would be worth it to upgrade the 2.1 GHz to 4GB memory or would 2GB be enough?

For other computers if 3gb of ram and 1.83 ghz processor ok?

i'd start off buying 2GB in a SINGLE stick, if you don't have a problem with buying through NewEgg... that'll save you having to buy two new sticks down the road if you decide to upgrade to 3 or 4 GB.

The macbook uses dual channel memory, so you will see a performance boost when using two sticks of memory that are identical rather than a single stick.

No, 4GB is not necessary. If anything, it's a waste.
