Is there any way to find my mailing address on the AU portal? If not how do I figure out what it is?

Your name
The name and room number of your dorm (e.g., Anderson 312)
American University
4400 Massachusetts Ave.
Washington, DC 20016

Technically, 4400 Massachusetts Ave., NW.

During welcome week, they’ll tell you a ZIP+4 ZIP code. The Plus 4 will be a unique identifier for your dorm. They say that if people will use it, your mail will get to you faster.

OMGosh, forgot the NW! Just a few months after graduation, and I’ve lost all my DC savvy. Is the plus 4 new? Never heard of it before. D found the biggest hang-ups were in getting timely pick-up notifications for packages the UPS tracking system said had arrived. I got the feeling they would just sit around until someone felt like dealing with them. I don’t think plus 4 will help there.

I agree about the packages not being delivered to the students in a timely manner, especially at the beginning of the school year. Plus, last year, my son (who was in Hughes) had to go to Leonard to pick up his packages for a number of weeks at the beginning of the semester. A bit inconvenient, to say the least.

MommaJ, I wouldn’t know whether the ZIP+4 is new. They told my daughter about it at the start of last year, but that was her freshman year, so our family’s institutional memory doesn’t go back any farther than that.

I don’t think the ZIP+4 is new but when I use the USPS site to address a package I’m mailing to my D, the USPS system keeps rejecting the +4 number and keeps correcting it with the main zip. It gets to her anyway. Although one time the package arrived on a holiday weekend and by the time she was able to get it, some of the food I had in there was spoiled. :(

This has the specific dorm ZIP+4 info:[Receiving Mail for Students](Mail Information for Students and Parents | American University, Washington, DC)

The only issue my daughter has had with packages is the weird package pickup hours. It is only in the evenings and, if she is in daily rehearsals for a play, she has a really hard time making it there.
