Does anyone know when the class of 2012 will get their addresses? Hopefully it will be before the 2nd so I can tell my friends and family...

Last year we were able to get the addresses right after the infamous 90-second good bye. There is a booth set up outside the auditorium in the lobby area where you pick up a packet of stuff that includes the mailing address. There is also a post office set up so you can write a letter on the spot and make sure your candidate receives a letter the next day.

Oops! Just realized this is the wrong forum. I have no idea when you will get addresses. My apologies!

Last year, plebe mail addresses were sent to their homes arriving the day before I-Day. If you drove to Annapolis, you didn't have it in advance, but your family had it when they returned home. Plebes were given their addresses during processing on I-Day. Family members that hung out for the swearing in ceremony and the 1/2 hour with the plebes before they marched back into Bancroft received that information from their plebes.

do you find out your company before i-day?

I remember getting it a few days before I-day when they sent the company info out. I remember that I was already headed to Annapolis when we received it at home but you can call admissions and they tell you your address and company a couple of days prior to I-day.

for 2010, the addresses were mailed home- since we went down to annapolis a day early, we did not receive it by the time of our trip.

however-
the addresses were given to the plebe in alumni hall, and then passed on to us when we met him on Stribling after the oath. For parents not attending I-Day, your plebe can make a call home- just remind them to bring the address with them!

Realizing they will not have access to their cell phones that day, there are several parents clubs that meet up at the Mexican Monument (at the end of stribling) that provide cell phones to any unaccompanied Mid- along with drinks and a snack- so just make sure your plebe knows where that is and encourage them to go there after the oath.

Just remember to stay by your phone and answer that call- even though it may be a number you have never seen before!

As for packages and letters-
you will have several days following I-Day to mail them both--- the plebes are not given mail for several days (and depending on the company, a mail run may not be made until week 2). Generally speaking, mail is not "delivered" as it is "received" in Bancroft- at least not during plebe summer. Understanding this, a suggestion is to put a small number on the outside of the envelope so that your plebe can open and read them in numerical order (the order in which you sent them) if that matters.

In return for all of your letters and cards, your plebe will write you a short note after they get back to Bancroft before lights-out on I-day. Don't expect any long discertations.... ours was about 3 lines long, written in pencil on a small piece of lined paper, obviously torn out of a small notebook they were issued. If I recall, they were told to let us "rents" know they were "alive and well" and "not to worry." I heard one girl managed to write a whole page full!

Enjoy this time with your soon-to-be-plebe. Do some fun stuff!

If you don't get it on I-day, I've been told you'll get it in the mail. If not your plebe will write first thing to you their address.

An idea to get your address out to everyone is to use Facebook to get e-mail addresses and mailing addresses of everyone who wanted to write to the plebe-to-be and give the list to a trusted family member (sibling or parent) or have a close friend get it from your family and e-mail everyone what your mailing address for the summer is. =)
