I have been wondering this for awhile, and it may be a stupid question: I am looking into a liberal arts major while obviously many kids look into engineering, for example. While I realize every school is different, are our admissions decisions based on the same criteria/viewed by the same people? Thanks in advance
Applications are generally read by one of many readers (sometimes based on what region you’re from) so your application may be viewed by different people than others you know. It depends on the school whether or not it is more difficult in some fields than others. Some schools require you apply to get into a specific program and others let you change around. Those that require admission to a certain program/area of study will have varying difficulty depending on the size and popularity of the program.
An engineer applying to a small LAC might be a more desired “diverse” student and vice versa for larger engineering schools looking to fill other programs in the humanities.
No blanket answer and many schools seem to try to avoid releasing such information. Apply for whatever area you’re interested in, don’t try to game the system as you might end up stuck in a major you don’t care for.
@Lagging yes for sure! I was thinking more in the context of bigger universities, as far as who reads whose documents. I am for sure set on my major. Just wondering about the method to their madness! thanks for answer
