If you're applying for freshman admission to the College of Letters and Science, is it true that your choice of major is not taken into consideration during holistic review?

pretty much…if you’re a good candidate for berkeley, you’re in.

i think they kind of judge on character as well through your essay. i feel like a lot of people here are similar in the ways they try to make a difference or feel for each other.

What does “pretty much” mean? I would think that they either consider your major or they don’t.

And if you are admitted to L&S and decide to attend, you will enter as undeclared.

You then complete the prerequisites for a major and declare, usually around sophomore or junior year. A few L&S majors are capped and require applying to, usually with a higher GPA. Changing to a major in another division (Business, Chemistry, Engineering, Natural Resources, or Environmental Design) requires applying to change to that division.

List of L&S majors here: [Office of Undergraduate Advising: List of Majors](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/major/majorlist.html)

Capped means impacted, right?

Yes.

Non-capped majors in L&S you can just declare after completing the prerequisites. Though it may not be that great an idea to declare a major in which you have been getting only a 2.0 GPA in the prerequisites.

Capped majors require applying; usually, this means needing a higher GPA. It can also mean other requirements (e.g. portfolio for art practice). The social welfare major allows up to 130 students per year to declare on a first come, first served basis.

substitute pretty much for basically. i mean basically for pretty much hahaha
