Major Choice Help

I need help and advice. I am an upcoming junior and have no clue what I want to do with my life. I am a smart kid with a 4.0 and will probably end with a 32+ ACT… So everyone tells me that I have a bright future but I don’t know what to do with it! I would love to be an Anesthesiologist, because I’m interested in the work that they specifically do, but I don’t like biology and medicine enough to get through med school I believe. I wouldn’t like a typical doctor job so I don’t think it would suit me well to go train to be one, if that makes sense. My strong suit is math. I have taken college math classes this year as a sophomore, so I’m able to do higher level math. (I’m not trying to brag saying I took these classes I just want to explain the level I’m at)
I am good with computers. And may have an interest in business. I need some advice with what I should look into being as I get older. I know this is cheesy but I do want to make a lot of money when I get older and I’m definitely willing to work for it. I just wish I knew how.

Any help is appreciated!

Nurses work in anesthesiology, earn a lot of money, and dont have to go to school for 12-15 years.

If you’re good at math, look into CS. Symbolic language (see Stanford major) and philosophy also use/develop the same cognitive skills as math so lok into those.

Well first off, what do you consider “a lot of money”? There’s a big difference between a nurse’s “lot of money” and a big investment banker “lot of money”.

Honestly, it seems like you’re in a situation where you don’t even know what interests you yet. I’m not trying to be rude, but saying you are interested in being an Anesthesiologist yet dislike medicine…is a contradiction. They work with medicine on a daily basis. That’s like saying you’re interested in being a Programmer yet dislike computer science…

As for the math avenue, what interests you in math? Being good at math and enjoying math are very different things.

Computer Science all the way. Not a lot of school required, makes a decent salary, and is a really good match for those with a strong maths background.

Look into it at least. You never know!

A couple of fields to take a look at are data analytics and financial analysis. They are both growing and your math and computer skills would be well utilized.

I actually think that sophomore year in high school is a time to expand your interests, not narrow them. Obviously you can focus a little - but you are at most, what, 15? There’s no need to settle on a specific career for now.

Financial or economic analysis was going to be what I suggested, since you have interest in business, math and making a lot of money. Peer into that.

But now’s the time to maybe start a running list of all of the things you’re interested in and spend some time learning about them. When I was 15, I think I wanted to be a lawyer. I cycled through several different careers before I graduated from high school (lawyer, doctor, engineer, actuary, probably some other ones I’m forgetting). I discarded all of those before my sophomore year of college. And even then, the career I started pursuing at 21 is not the career I currently work in - I didn’t even know it existed when I was 15 (or 25, for that matter).

In the 6-7 years between now and when you hit the workforce, the world will have changed a lot and there may exist jobs that don’t exist now. (As an example…when I was 15 in 2001, there were no such things as social media managers or data scientists, because social media basically didn’t exist and we weren’t producing nearly as much data then as we are now. Even software development looked vastly different because this was before apps. And we never anticipated the Great Recession…when I was 15, I assumed I would own a house by the time I was 25, because houses were cheap and anyone could get a loan. Ah…youth.)
