Major Decision

I am stuck between two majors right now, one that I would enjoy more and one that would be more financially beneficial and less competitive.

The two majors are Advertising and Computer Science.

I do enjoy programming, but I enjoy graphic design, copywriting, and video editing more. However, Advertising is a very competitive field and may not earn as much money as a Computer Science degree. But on the flip side, it would be much more rewarding.

So my question is, do you have any advice for me on choosing between the two?

Also, I would like to mention that I’m considering a dual-major but am having trouble finding an accredited school with both majors. Any ideas from anyone?

Contrary to your belief, computer science is very competitive, even possibly more so than advertising.
I advise that you look a bit into web developing, which involves both the aspects of publicizing and programming. Not only is there a good salary, but it also allows to do what you love.

As for the second question, I have no knowledge.

You don’t have to major in advertising to go into advertising. Most people in advertising didn’t major in it. Advertising is just a subset of marketing, so the ideal major for you might be marketing, which is found at lots of places (but primarily public flagship universities with lots of majors, or business-focused colleges). You could major in business more generally, or you could major in a social science - psychology, which is the basis of advertising and marketing, or sociology or anthropology - or really, you could major in anything.

The most important thing is the internship experience that you get in college. You’ll want to make sure you work in a place that has opportunities for you to intern in marketing and/or advertising.
