So I got my March scores today, first time taking the test...I'm a high school junior.

750 CR
560 M <<<<< ahh!
780 W (11 Essay)

TOTAL: 2090

Will that horrible math score reflect terribly to colleges even if the reading and writing sections balance it out? Honestly, I am just not good at math but since I plan to major in areas in communications or the arts will that hurt me significantly?

I'm not even thinking about going Ivy League or anything, but what about other prestigious colleges such as UCLA, USC, Northwestern, etc.? I don't know, but I'm pretty worried...

Well, either way I plan to retake it in the fall; hopefully more studying and math prep will help me. But any advice is much, much appreciated! You guys seem to know what you're talking about.

Thanks in advance...and congrats to all of you with those amazing scores. I'm jealous. =]

Get to know the style of math problems. Really, they're not that hard, you just have to know what to look for. I suggest practicing on the blue book and raise that score for the June test.

Northwestern will definitely consider your math score. Get some prep, like a private math tutor. They are expensive, most around my area are $700 but they are worth it in my opinion

2090 is a very respectable score. some work with a prep book can bring you up into the 600s in math, which is all you need (your score now is fine, actually, but if you want to get higher...).

I recommend the blue book. Tutors range in price (here they are about $1000) and unless you're struggling, I don't think it's worth the money. If you're taking a lot of APs, finals, etc, and are going to be pressed for time between now and May/June, don't take them again until the fall. Maybe take some SAT IIs in the spring, then do some prep over the summer and take your SAT I in October. Good luck!
