Hello! I am very confused as to what I should do.

I have to make the final selection for my major in this upcoming week, and I am still undecided on what to choose.

I am 100% set on going onto Medical School, however I am not sure what I should choose for my major.

I have a great interest in medicine itself, and I do well and enjoy the science classes, however I love English, philosophy, and political science.

After doing some research, I have seen that a lot of students who intend to go onto Medical School are not in the typical science major. However, I was wondering if I went this route, if it would put me at a disadvantage for Medical School.

Am I better off doing an English or Political Science major and fulfilling my Medical pre-req's, or should I major in Biology or another science major to ensure I am the strongest in this area, as well as not give the wrong impression to Admissions at Med Schools?

Thank you so much in advance, and help would be greatly appreciated!
I just want to make sure I make the right decision.

No. The admins for med schools do not care if you choose another academic major. They admit English majors, Classics majors, Spanish majors, Music majors, Philosophy majors, etc. My son was a Chemical Engineering major and no one asked him why he majored in engineering if he wanted to become a doctor.

What are your stats? What is your budget (how much will your family pay)?

I would rather go out-of-state, but also to another good school that I could possibly qualify for merit aid/it already being a cheap school.

I have a 2060 SAT score, 4.5 GPA Weighted, (not sure unweighted, as my school has not provided it - however I am guessing somewhere around 3.7?) and some pretty solid extracurriculars.

Overall, I am looking for a school not too far from the Tri-State Area, whether that means north or south of it; as well as a school that is fairly-liberal/gay-friendly.

I am still unsure of my major so that definitely hurts when narrowing down choices, but I can’t seem to find an affordable school that I would like and that is of some prestige.

710 Reading and 630 Math, however I plan on retesting one more time in the Fall to improve my math score.

And from what I understand, my family will be paying for my housing/personal expenses, but not the tuition of the school.

Thanks to all those who have provided suggestions.

And after speaking with my mom, I was told my sister did not receive financial aid but only large loans that still have to be payed back.

Ok…are you retesting? If you get a higher SAT, then you’ll have more chances for better aid.

How do you expect to pay for college (after any scholarships)? You’re not likely going to get a free ride or even close to it unless you attend a school that you either haven’t heard of or maybe a HBCU?

You can only borrow $5500 for frosh year…and frankly, you shouldn’t borrow much for college.

Are you saying that your parents won’t pay ONE CENT towards college??

You are focusing on inconsequential things…like majors and med school Admins…your focus needs to be on finding affordable schools…otherwise you won’t get out your front door.

most colleges, except for maybe bible schools, aren’t going to care whether you are gay or whatever. Even the southern schools have supportive gay-straight supportive clubs.
