I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with applying to the big 4 accounting firms. My accounting GPA is a 2.8 while my cumulative GPA is a 3.6. Yes you read that right. Will this disqualify me from a lot of jobs? I attend a top 10 undergraduate business program and 2.8 is the average grade in these courses at my school.
The firms typically want to know both your overall and accounting GPA. For how a student from your school can expect to do with your stats, you are probably best off making an appointment in your college’s career placement office and asking. GPA cutoffs vary from school to school.
I haven’t applied to any accounting positions but from what my accounting classmates have gone through during recruiting and in my recruiting process for finance/consulting, we have never had to disclose major specific GPAs. If the grading curve for accounting is not relatively new then it is likely that the recruiting team knows this already and is familiar with the structure.
