Major in Classics?

Alrighty guys,
Well as you know I'm planning on going to UVA and am sure that I will be applying to Mcintire for international business. However, I also really want to learn some other languages eventually. Right now I'm a junior and I take both Latin (3years) and Spanish (2years). I know UVA has a great Classics program but should I apply to it? If applying to the Classics program is going to hurt my chances of getting in then I will just minor in Spanish. I love Latin and would like to continue learning it, but if it's going to hurt my chances of getting in because it's really competitive then I'll just finish learning spanish.

UVAorBust, you don’t apply to a major. You apply to a college. If you’re interested in classics (or Spanish) as a major, you apply to the College of Arts and Sciences. You can indicate a possible major when you apply but nobody holds you to it, and you don’t really need to decide until the second semester of your second year.

If I were you, though, I’d use one of my essay to play up my interest in classics, which is a fairly small major at UVA and most other places. The admission committee wants students with a variety of interests, and the numbers who want to major in history/politics/business are legion.

Alright thank you jingle, well I plan on starting to talk with one of the classics teachers at UVA. I read his book. I want to discuss with him classes that don’t necessarly make me translate latin but decipher hidden meanings in the Latin. Kind of like analysis of the Latin if you don’t understand what I’m saying.
Anyways, Is the Classics program competitive at UVA?
Thanks for the helpful response jingle

They axed the Spanish minor for budgetary reasons unfortunately.
