I've been working for the past 10 years, doing digital art/retouching for a photo lab. It's semi-decent work, plus I get to do a little graphic design to help the marketing dept.

I've never been to college, due to family issues (poverty, deaths, etc) and started working full time at 16. I'm 34 now, and I'm starting comm. college in January, and transferring to a nearby school (UTA, most likely) here in the Dallas area.

I originally wanted to get a BA with a focus on Marketing. However, I'm starting to think that wouldn't be the best move for future employment. So, my first question is, are there any marketing majors out there who are thriving? Any who aren't?

I have other interests. I could also see myself in some form of medical field, minus being a Dr. At one time, I thought about getting a AAS in radiography, because I hear it's not a bad way to make 40k right off the bat. Either way, I want a 4 year degree. I need one, for myself. Any other ideas? I'm surprised it's this hard to figure out at my age. I figured I'd know where to go.

Because of how quickly tech is growing and changing, a modern alternative to traditional marketing is digital marketing. There are actually companies such as webMD and healthination where their main stream of revenue come from advertising but their content is medical. Those companies usually hire someone to monitor their ad space/ work with media buyers/ and negotiate platforms if you end up in their marketing division.

Within Business, what are the best job possibilities for each concentration?

My instinct was originally to go after a BA in Marketing. After speaking to a friend who manages a market research company, I feel I should check out as many options as possible.

What can I expect to do to get these BA focuses, and what are the best possibilities of career paths? Hopefully some of you have these degrees and/or work in one of the fields.
