Major Math 2 Calculator Dilemma! Don't Do This!

So I took the Math 2 test today as my third subject test, expecting to be done with testing for good, as it's now December and I'm a senior.

Somewhere around problem 7 my TI-84+ SE malfunctioned and I had to take the batteries out to try and get it to work. It then cleared its ram, and only allowed me to see one line of print total (and graphing no longer worked). I didn't cancel my scores because I couldn't afford to have no scores to show since most of my colleges don't guarantee receipt of January scores... Maybe I shouldn't have waited until December for this one...

Should I retake in January anyways in case some colleges will see January scores? I was shooting for above a 700 this time and I left blank ~10 and don't know how many I missed.

I’d retake it just for the few, but your proctor was supposed to tell you before you started testing that if a calculator malfunctions you can cancel just that score. The same goes with CD players for listening tests. It says so on the test booklet, too.

Sorry WingsReborn, to clarify I took two other tests on other dates. This was my only test today, so it was the only one to cancel. I knew, however, that I needed this score regardless of malfunctions, so I had to continue taking the test.

Oh. I’d still advise taking it again for the schools that will accept it. The only thing you have to lose is a Friday night and $31.

Retake in Jan, Since your goal was a 700 or higher, and Math 2 is usually a requirement for some schools.

retake! I might too, because my Nov Math II score was only 640, but I sent in my score verification form last week-hopefully, CB made a mistake/I made a dumb mistake in bubbling in (in this case, they would change my score) hehehe

Retake, and contact admissions offices to see if they’ll accept your January score.

quick graphing calculator question:
If I RESET a Ti-83 (2nd Function, + , 7, 1, 2) is it automatically in degree mode?

Unsure, but you can easily change that under MODE…?

^yes, I know, but I just really need to know if I reset a Ti-83, does it turn into degree mode? someone please answer me

No, the default is radian, not degree. Why do you ask?

:( OH GOD. I took Math II last month and thought that the default was DEGREES and I used a Ti-83. That explains my 640. What should I do? It’s too late to cancel scores, right?

Should I write in the Common App extra comment section that I got a freaking 640 because I didn’t know default was radians? OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD

Okay, DEFINATELY retaking in January.

Oh no! That’s very unfortunate. :, I’m sorry. I believe that you can cancel scores until Wednesday. It’s up to you whether to do that or not, but I have high doubts that admission agencies would accept a comment that said you did poorly on the math section because you were in degrees and not radians. It either sounds like an excuse for not doing well, and even if it did hold merit, shows that you made the careless mistake to not check. There’s not really a win in this situation, except unless you retake the test in January and colleges accept it. Regardless though, I wish that all turns out well for you!

I took Math II last month :frowning: is it too late to cancel scores? Will they make an exception for me because the supervisor didn’t allow me to use the scientific calculator that I brought b/c I was using the graphing one first? All the people I know were allowed to use both at the same time for Math II. The supervisor on that day told me I was not allowed to use both and that I had to put one on the floor :frowning: which is why I got all the messed up numbers.

Dammit! I was getting 700s on Barron’s :frowning:

I’m going to retake in January, for sure. The colleges I’m applying to accept Jan scores (most Ivies). Do you think I should send my reasoning in for now, and then send all my subject test scores in Jan?

I fell like such an dumb*ss
