Major/Minor

If a student is restricted to either majoring/minoring in two subjects of choice would it be advisable for them to major in the subject in which there is greater job security and minor in the subject with less job security???

It’s honestly up to you to decide which one you are more interested in. Yes, money and job security is important, but if you go to work with a terrible attitude every day, you will have a hard time being rewarded by life. College isn’t all about getting a job, thought it is important. You should major in something that you truly enjoy and something that you can envision yourself doing for a long time into the future.

If you equally enjoy the two topics that you will major and minor in, then it would be advisable to major in the topic with more job security, but remember that job security and demand can change unpredictably with changes in our culture and economy. Do what is best for you and you will be satisfied.

A minor isnt a credential. I have never heard of an employer advertising for graduates who have minored in X. They look for a college degree in X, thats your major.

Sometimes a minor may show that you have a bit of breadth to your education, or maybe a personal interest in something, but dont count on it improving your career.
