do most people at berkeley just have 1 major and nothing else, or do most also have a minor? how often do people double major? statistics arent necessary, just asking for general info on whats common. after all, i hear that classes are extremely intense at cal so i can't imagine many double major there.

I wouldn't say most, but I would say many have a minor, and many have a second major. A smaller group has two majors and a minor, and a very small group has three majors. I think you could find the stats on Berkeley's website regarding who does what, but it might not be available.

minors are more work for little benefit. dont get them unless you seriously want to devote a lot time to a specific subject or you're thinking about a very specific grad program.

There are quite a few double majors here, more than major and minor combinations I would say (I know many more double majors than majors+minors, anyway).

My one data point: S1 is currently planning on a double major with a minor

Some people have a major and two minors. :)
