Hey, if you want to have more than one major or a major and minor, can they come from different colleges?

Yes you can.

You can double major in Business (Haas)/Economics (L&S) for people that get into both Haas and Econ.

An example of major + minor include Anything/Public Policy Minor (Goldman School of Public Policy).

Is it allowed only for specific major combinations or any?

All double major combos are allowed as long as you can finish all the requirements and graduate within the maximum amount of semesters allowed by each of the colleges. This number is different for for each of them. Haas & Engineering have a strict cap of 9 semesters, which is only given to finish the major not in their college.

when you have two majors in two different colleges, then you are earning a "simultaneous degree" (as opposed to a "double major" which is for two majors within the same college). you can do any combination of majors you want, but you have to make sure that you satisfy the requirements of both colleges. for example, an student with two majors in engineering and L&S would have to take all the engineering and major courses as well as the seven course breadth requirement. it is doable as long as you make a plan to make sure you take care of everything.

also, the cool thing about a minor is that you don't have to satisfy any of the general requirements of the college. i, myself, am a chemistry major in the college of chemistry and i'm also taking all the classes for a music minor. then once i take all the classes, i just go to the music department and ask them for my minor, and i don't have to worry about any L&S requirements.

what is the average number of credits required to do a double major?
