MAJOR problems

Hey guys!
I’m currently a first year environmental science major, but I hate it so much. I was considering changing my major to Business Economics. I eventually want to get my MBA in marketing or finance.
Would this be a good major change?
Is business econ even a prosperous major?
Thank you guys!

A lot of business/finance hiring practices correlate with the pedigree of where you go to school.

What do you mean pedigree?

If you want to switch to business, then go ahead…you don’t need our permission. Or talk to an advisor who actually has an idea of your academic progress and can assist you. Not to be a party pooper, but there have been way too many posts like these on here recently where someone solicits advice without giving any background information and expects others to swoop in and solve things for them.

Good luck!

You should major in something you enjoy doing. @preamble1776 is correct that for business/finance, where you go to school can matter. Go have a chat with your advisor. They’re there to help you.

Well, what do you dislike about environmental science? Are you struggling in it? What aspects do you enjoy?

Taking some time thinking about what you don’t like about ES and what kinds of things you really do like to study will help you select a new major.

You can be prosperous with any major - your future job/career determines that, not the major. You can also get an MBA in any major, although if you want to do finance something quantitative will help you with that.

If you hate your major or you’re struggling in it, it’s only your first year change it until you find something you enjoy. I switched from Zoology to Accounting to Marketing. I’m not saying I thoroughly enjoy everything about Marketing, but it’s the closest thing I could find to help me just graduate. I’m in my last semester, honestly can’t wait to be done after last semester I’m honestly pretty burned out of school being there for 4 years. I’m doing 16 credits this semester which ups to 18 the last 6 weeks of school, but the 2 added hours are a joke course so it’s not really any different.
