major selection

hi,

i want to major in chemistry, but my grades for honors chemistry and ap chemistry are all Bs. my school is highly competitive, but the fact that I don’t have any As for those classes troubles me. I haven’t taken the SAT chemistry yet, and ap scores are due to come out later in summer. i have a science extracurricular, but with all of this, what are my chances of getting into a top college with a chemistry major?

thank you very much! responses are really really appreciated

Most colleges do not admit by major - they admit the student. So at those kinds of colleges, specifying you want to major in chemistry won’t affect your chances of admissions at all.

At the few colleges that do admit by major, having a 3.0 GPA in chemistry may affect your admissions a little bit, but if majoring in chemistry is really important to you perhaps you should deemphasize colleges that won’t let you study chemistry.
