Does the major you put down on your app help you get in?

oops, sry, didn't mean to end there...
i'm interested in medicine and washu is my second choice school, so i would be happy with any science-related major, as long as i get in.
so, basically my question is, are there tougher selection criteria for let's say applicants who indicate molecular biology as their major versus someone who puts chemistry or physics... or even undecided??
which science related major is the least competitive to get in for?
if you put undecided, is it less competetive than if you mark down the least competetive science major?
sry if that sounded confusing... :)

btw- by competetive/tougher selection criteria, I mean a limited number of seats available or a major where there's generally a stronger applicant pool (like how for pre-med the applicants are mostly Harvard/IV-qualified students).

I don't think it helps much. I mean, it's sooo easy to change what you're doing at WashU, and they realize that you have NO clue what you're going to be doing for all 4 years. Especially since some of the subjects offered aren't found in high schools. So I'd just put what you're interested in, without thinking it's going to help or hurt you.

yah, but aren't certain majors way more competetive than others, like the pre-med, since it's rated one of the top in the nation? and in my situation, since i'm interested in going into medicine and don't have stellar stats, I wouldn't want to put pre-med down... do you kinda get what I mean? or am i not making any sense... :P

Wash U is going to be competitive no matter what major you put down, and i agree with eleph - changing majors is so easy that it probably wouldn't matter what you write on the application. i would say just to honestly indiciate your first choices... good luck!
