What major would you say has the safest job market right now? I am not talking about making a lot of money just being able to land a secure job?

Something business related, such as Business Administration and especially accounting.

Nursing would be the safest. Accounting and Engineering aren’t too far behind, but for them it helps more to go to a name brand school than nursing. A general BBA is not going to be a guaratneed job like nursing.

are there any other degrees besides nursing and engineering that set you up for a job after college with an undergrad from your typical state school

If you want an absolutely certain job after college, join ROTC.

Otherwise there are few certainties, AFAICT.

dang

I grew up with the impression that college practically guaranteed you a job, and now i am forced to face that in life there are no guarantees

“there are no guarantees”

Duh.

This has not been true for a long time. When Financial Aid came about it opened college to people who should be taking up trade school and thus eliminated the idea that college was for the best and brightest. All college aged people should know this by now and should not have the idea that you have.

At least you learned it now. Otherwise you’d be in for a very painful reality check.

I was talking about when i was like 10 yrs old i saw college as a guaranteed ticket into the workforce, I have since learned differently thanks to this website

engineering, nursing, and the army lol

In this economy there is no guarantees about any job, I saw a news story a few months back about a guy with an MBA from UCLA who is now delivering pizzas as his only job.

well how will people survive if an mba from ucla cannot get you work anymore

I would join the army

^We have just had the best July in the stock market in 20 years. This isn’t permanent. You don’t seem to even be in college right now, relax.

That story is not common, most people with an MBA from a prestigious program are working.

Not army.
Air Force ftw!

lol how come

lol.

My dad was in the Air Force for 24 years, 9 months and 24 days.

I am so completely biased. :D

does the air force have an official retiring age? and does the military give good perks?

Is this a serious question?

I mean what do you think? You think they expect you to possibly risk your life and then when your term is up just shove you out the door and say ‘Good Luck’? Of course not…
