I want to go to UCD for engineering(possibly mechanical or chemical), but I don’t think I can get in as an engineering major. I have a 27 ACT score and a 4.32 UC GPA. I was wondering how hard is it to switch into the college of engineering at UCD? I have heard that UCD is the easiest UC to change majors in, meaning they are pretty lenient. No sure if what I just said is right, but that’s what I heard. Also, how tough if the curriculum there or are all engineering curriculum at all universities the same since they are ABET accredited. . I am worried that if I get a low gpa or even not graduate, my job opportunities will be limited(obviously if I don’t graduate they will be limited haha).

Yep, it’s true that it’s easy to switch majors at UCD. All you need to do is fill out a change of major petition form, and with the College of Engineering, you just need to get a minimum GPA of 2.0 on all coursework related to Engineering.

Also, a 4.32 UC GPA and a 27 ACT score is fantastic! I don’t see why you’re worried, but then again, UCs have rejected top applicants before, unfortunately. :(

Are you majoring in engineering at UCD? If so, is it bearable, all the work? Does UCD have a high rentention rate for all 4 years for all engineering majors?

It isn’t hard to switch majors at all (though you’ll need to run across campus to get the paperwork signed XD), just try to get a major similar in requirements to the one you end up wanting if you don’t want to take too much different stuff and “waste time”.

Also, you’ll have to take certain classes in order to be approved, and need to pass all of those classes with a certain GPA (depending on major) - I’m sure you can retake them if necessary, just know this!

Good luck, and have fun :)

@ Kobe: no, I’m not an engineering major–I’m not smart enough for that.

Kobe, engineering requires a lot of dedication, sometimes you’ll be amazed at how easy your 4 unit GE classes will be in comparison lol. I think it’s totally worth it though! :)
