Majors at barnard

this might be a stupid question but if you get accepted into the major you chose when applying to barnard, do you have to start taking classes freshman year. because like what if hypothetically someone (me) applied as one major but now wants to major in a something else?

You don’t have to indicate major when applying to Barnard, and you don’t have to declare a major until the endof sophomore year. So there really is no such thing as being “accepted into the major” even if you indicated a preference in your application.

@calmom thanks!! also does barnard take your major preference into consideration during the admissions process?

It probably depends on the student and the major, given that admissions is holistic. So it would be one additional piece of information the admissions office would have about the student, and might be significant depending on how it tied in with other information included in the application.
