<p>I think there may have been a misunderstanding. There is no University of California. UC is more of a system than it is actually a school. The prefix UC just denotes that a school is in that system. They are completly separate, campuses, admittance etc. Unless you are talking about Cal (berkeley).</p>

<p>I have heard people use University of California in reference to CAL.</p>

<p>yes, University of California is another name for Cal or Berkeley because the two most known UCs out of state are Cal and UCLA, so it is appropriate for them to use that designation because it is the original UC.</p>

<p>Because we live in California, we are familiar with all schools in the UC system.</p>

<p>well the reason we (Californians) call it Cal in the first place is because it's the University of CALifornia. I think some people just call UCB "California" sometimes.</p>
