Majors at Wake

Is anyone doing Political Science? If so, how many polisci classes did you take in your freshman year? Can you place out of any intro classes with AP Gov't? Also, do the professors teach toward a certain political bias, or do they keep the teaching relatively non-partisan?

Any info would help. Thanks

I'm doing poly sci and econ. Freshman year I took two classes, POL 115 and 116 (Political Theory and International Politics). I placed out of POL 113 and 114 (US and Comparative) with AP credit... sweet deal. In terms of any bias, you CANNOT detect it, at least during class. I know many of the professors and you have to get to know them a great deal to pick up on their ideologies. Even if you do, they won't force their ideology down your throat like at other colleges.

I'm not doing poly sci (though I'm probably going to take it as one of my divisionals), but the scuttlebut around campus is that the poli sci department here is more conservative than the other departments here and more conservative than the poli sci departments at a lot of other schools (not, mind you, that that's saying a whole lot because college professors, as a whole, tend to be extremely liberal). Certainly take emsibdn's advice about what it's like in the classroom over mine, though, because I'm only reporting on what I've heard around campus.

I'm thinking about doing PC or History. Is it easy to do a double major for those? IE: would a history course on Diplomatic history qualify for your PC and History major? Thanks!

I don't know anything about cross-listed courses and such, but I do know that I've heard of people who do double majors in those subjects, so it's definitely do-able.

I'm not sure you can do a cross-listed class for poly sci and history. But it is doable.
