Majors for ROTC, Military Intelligence Officers

Hey everyone. I’m going to be attending a small LAC this fall and I am seriously considering ROTC. I am most interested in the Military Intelligence branch, but I have heard that it is quite competitive to get active duty upon commission and graduation. What majors would be best for this? As of now my interests are Spanish, Political Science, and International Relations. However, I am also not opposed to studying more necessary languages such as Russian and Arabic.

Any advice would be very much appreciated. And sorry if my terminology is off, I am still very new to this.

What ROTC are you considering? Army? Navy? Air Force?

For Air Force and Navy, technical majors are heavily wanted and will probably give you the best chance for commissioning. That is of course only if you want to go into tech, which you don’t.

I’m currently in AFROTC and I know foreign languages are also wanted. In order to go into intel, it really depends on your standing in the program. It doesn’t matter the major for the most part. Majors play a more heavy role on summer field training selection and scholarships. (You can Google that but I wouldn’t worry.) You’ll be attending school for intel after commissioning I believe.

Anyways, I’ve heard that Army doesn’t consider majors. Just major in whatever you like! It’s a 4 year schooling commitment and the job just comes with the degree!

Army ROTC. Thanks for the advice. It seems like most people (I did more research) are saying that it doesn’t really matter what you major in. I might consider one of the critical languages though, because on my college’s ROTC page it says there are language scholarships.

And that your GPA is more important than your major. So I guess if I study something I’m passionate in I’m more likely to get a good GPA.

Top requested branches are military intelligence, infantry, aviation, and medical service corps.

Cadets who get branched MI have a 50-60% chance of getting branched detailed to a combat arms branch for the first few years of their career.

It is a competitive branch though so getting a high GPA and doing well in the Cader Leadership Course will increase your changes of getting MI.
