Can you major and minor in separate schools? For example, I was accepted into MCS for Chemistry and H&SS for Psychology, but I want to major in Chemistry and minor and Psychology. Is it possible to do both, or must I give up the Psychology minor?

Yes. My S is currently majoring in ECE and minor in Math.

You can pretty much do any combination of majors to minors.

How would you go about notifying them about minoring in Psychology?

Just go to the psychology dept and ask around. There’s definitely no lack of willingness to help. Also you could just take the required courses (some depts realize that you qualify for a minor and just give it to you, but I’m not quite sure about psychology).

Email the minor advisor, if there is one. Or just email the major advisor and tell him you’re interested in the minor.

In any case, it’s not something you need to worry about until after freshman year.
