Majors STONY BROOK

I want to do dentistry but Im deciding whether I want to do bio major but also Im interested in pharmacology. Can anyone tell how the programs are and if they are really hard. I checked the website but I want to know more and get some personal experiences from anyone.

THANKS

Both are strong programs at SB. Although Biology is a excellent and popular major, in terms of academic rigor, pharmacology will be more difficult.

In the end, you should consider your interests and eventual goal in deciding your major. Have you considered Biochemistry?

The thing is, Im not so great at chemistry but I still like it. Does pharmacology use alot of chemistry. I havent really thought about biochemistry but how is it compared to biology?

Pharmacology does have chemistry integrated into it.

I’m a little biased towards the Biochemistry program, as that is my track. It’s an excellent program which fuses both biology and Chemistry. You’ll be taking all of the core classes that Biology majors take in addition to some Chemistry and specific Biochemistry classes.

I strongly encourage you to consider Biochemistry @ SB. However, keep in mind you will have to take Organic Chemistry I and IIB, Physical Chemistry in addition to the general chemistry courses and laboratories.

thanks for your input :)
