Hey Guys!
So I have been reading a lot about BS/MD programs
I am very sure that I want to go into the medical profession and I want to save time/money so I am sure that I would benefit from the BS/MD program. also, i would love to start working earlier and save 1-2 years of my life
but…
I also have so many other interests that I want to delve deeper into. I want my college experience to be fun!
I have always wanted to major in Biological Sciences and minor in theatre
would i be able to do an accelerated degree program and also minor in another field?
in other words, can i do a bs/md program AND also minor in theatre
or would that be too stressful…?
if that is stressful, then I would rather do a normal 8-year college experience and major in biological sciences/minor in theatre.
or maybe do multiple majors…? i dont know
what do you think i should do
BS/MD programs are very focused. If you’re talking about a 6 or 7 year program, then there will be no time for minor, especially no time for a minor in something so time-consuming as theater, nor will you have time for a second major. All of your coursework is blocked out from day 1 with pre-reqs and degree requirements taking up almost all of your available course slots.
If you’re talking about about 8 year, guaranteed admission BS/MD programs, maybe. But it will be program dependent. That’s something you’ll need to ask at each program. Some programs have restrictions on what majors and minors are allowed.
One thing to keep in mind, theater is a very time consuming minor/major due to its performance requirements. You’ll need good time management skills to be successful academically while still getting your both your performances requirements and the expected pre-med ECs done.
Ditto for multiple majors. It can be done, but it takes lots of planning and good time management skills to pull it off.
