My husband and daughter just made it back from today's Make It Miami day today and she decided yes, to make it Miami. I am excited for her, but scared as well. I hope it is a good choice for her. The campus is beautiful and the town looks like a movie-set college town.

As an aside, I am happy that she will be out of her hometown, a city that is constantly on high-alert for for acts of violence. And, as I pray for those in Boston today, I also pray that Oxford, Ohio is and remains a the quintessential college town and is safe from harm.

Good luck to all as the May 1st day to declare your college choice comes around. I hope you all are happy with your choices and make the one that's right for you.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Congrats! I think you daughter will love Miami. Our oldest son graduated from MU last May. He had an absolutely tremendous experience there…without a doubt, he just loved it in Oxford. He now has a terrific job in Chicago, but has already made two trips back to Ohio to visit friends.

Congrats! Our son also chose Miami and my wife and I are both thrilled. We live in a close-in suburb of Chicago and are glad to see that the path to/from Oxford is well-worn. If she hasn’t already CollegeDirt, make sure she Likes the enrolled-students-only Facebook page. Per their instructions our son posted a profile of himself there and quickly found what seems to be a good roommate match (both honors, engineering school, like similar music). We know he’s going to get a GREAT undergraduate education and a truly Classic College Experience. I’ve been there twice with him now…what’s the deal with the bagel place?

You’ll just have to visit Bagel and Deli to see for yourself :)

The name describes it well…deli sandwiches combined with bagels. It’s a tiny place…maybe 50 different choices on the menu. Love it, but sad that I don’t know when I will have the chance to ever get back to Oxford to have one of my favorites!

The bagels are assembled (with meats and cheeses, or cream cheese, etc… ) then steamed and wrapped in foil. The steaming gives them a wonderful texture. When I started at Miami 30 years ago, I had never had a bagel, so Bagel &Deli bagels will always be my favorite.

It’s a hole in the wall, but that’s part of the charm!

Class of 2017

Applications…22,514

Offered admission…14,938 ( that would be a 66.3 admit rate )
.
Committed as of May 1st…3,752 ( that would be a 25% yield )

Another larger incoming class ( Miami said they were aiming for 3,600 again )
Hope they have room for these students, as last years class was about the same size

They are building new dorms right now but don’t know when they will be ready!

At least 2 of the new dorms will be ready for next year. Maple street station and ethridge hall
