Making a living as an Algebra tutor

I am wondering what the prospects are for making a living (about $800 to $1,000 per month) as an Algebra tutor while attending UF? I am currently making $30 per hour for Algebra tutoring and getting as many hours as I want in the Tampa area just by running an ad on Craigslist. This is a really great way to put myself through school but I'm not sure if this sort of work is available in the same abundance in the Gainesville area. I worry, for example, that the area is totally over-saturated with tutors, or that they are provided for free by UF, not to mention TutorZone, etc. I also have a concern that the subjects I tutor won't be as needed in the area as I'm only really comfortable tutoring up to College Algebra. The majority of the folks that I tutor in the Tampa area are high school students and folks taking remedial math courses at the local community colleges (Intermediate Algebra, etc). The one thought that does come to mind, however, would be tutoring students at Santa Fe College and maybe high school students in the area.

Sorry for the long post but can someone please provide me some advice here? I was just accepted into the Computer Science program at UF but my ability to pay my bills while I'm up there is a pretty important requirement for me to be able to attend.

Thanks in advance!

probably saturated. you’re not going to be tutoring college students, so UF tutoring/tutoringzone aren’t competition. there are probably opportunities out there, but i wouldn’t expect to make a living off it.

Algebra probably NOT.

Calculus YES.

yeah you can make a pretty penny off tutoring calc
