Females outnumber males in English undergrads 2 to 1. Since I’m applying as a male English major, will this help me get in to more selective colleges? Do universities try to balance out ratios like this?
Not an advantage for any of your higher ranks, but if you are applying to middle to lower ranked Liberal Arts colleges, you may find that you have some advantage, not just for English but for admisison in general, because many of them have far more women students than men and they want more males to improve “diversity.”
There is no gender preference for most majors except for some like engineering and nursing.
