Male/Female Ratio

I was perusing through the Class of 2015 webpage HMC has set up, and the "Who are you" section says that there were 614 admits, with 314 being female and 300 male. As I understand it, the campus is currently around 66% male, so does this mean they're trying to get the ratio to 50/50? Or does it just happen that more men tend to choose HMC of those admitted, keeping the ratio as is despite accepting more females?

Just wondering from those that have been accepted in the past.

Hey, so from what I gather, women tend to have a higher “yield” at HMC than men. As a matter of fact, the class of 2014 was the first of all HMC history to have more females than males admitted and enrolled. My guess is, like you said, the college is trying to make the student body more gender balanced. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is what ends up happening.

That’s awesome! One of the negatives of some engineering schools I applied to were the male-dominated student body, so it’s nice to see HMC evening it out. I think it also shows that they must have a number of qualified women applying for it to be worth it. Thanks for the info.

the class of 2014 is 52 percent female and 48 percent male

Where is that, please? I can’t find it. Thanks!

You can check your son’s admission packet. The URL is located there. It’s in the page about Admitted Students Program.

It’s hmc (dot) edu/admitted

(Unless they didn’t want me to post that, but it’s not like there’s anything super-exclusive on it–although it’s very nicely set up.)

@Deysim - Yeah, but my son was admitted LAST year and is taking a gap year. He will be starting this fall, but we’re having trouble getting him on the mailing lists that the current year admitted students are on.

@Anthroponomist - thanks!
