My senior son is looking for colleges that need males. He has a great voice, but needs financial help. He's willing to look at all colleges. He's an Eagle scout, has weighted GPA of 3.46, ACT 26, SAT math 550, writing 560, critical reading 590. Any help would be great. He's already applied to Redlands, Chapman ( the music department is offer talent award but not sure if we can afford it., CSU Long Beach and CSU Fullerton.

Try the music majors forum.

Just an fyi—practically every voice dept needs male voices!

Luther College in Iowa

A friend of my son’s who was roughly in the same position is at University of Maryland - Baltimore County, and is very happy with the program, too.

Hobart -William Smith in the Finger Lakes(NY) has a very generous competitive arts scholarship. Is also SAT optional

Take a look at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth. My son is a music major, vocal.
It has a wonderful school of music. All of his music teachers have been great according to him. He received great merit aid as well as a small music scholarship.
Their scholarship deadlines are coming up soon. Good luck!

I think your friend posted about your S earlier this week but I recommended that he look at Linfield College in McMinnville OR and perhaps Willamette U in Salem OR.

Linfield offered my D 11K a year with a 26 ACT and a 3.7 w they also came up with a nice needs based package.

Oklahoma City University.

I don’t know if they have a lot of vocal scholarships, but Indiana U in Bloomington has an amazing vocal music department

their award winning men’s a cappella group. My D was in showchoir in high school and almost went to IU just so she could be part of the music program, even though she wasn’t majoring in music, after visiting and meeting the choir director.

I just wanted to say congrats for having a son with a beautiful singing voice. What a gift! :)

3DBOYZ, there are parameters to audition based/audition driven admissionss that you need to be aware of. If you are at all unfamiliar with music based admissions, please read this http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/258796-so-you-want-music-major-one-familys-experience.html.

While I would take the suggestions that are offered here as a starting point, I second musicamusica’s suggestion you concentrate your questions within the music major forum. I’ve requested the moderators move your thread there. You’ll get plenty of advice and insights from folks down that road before.

Schools I think of with strong music programs are Wartburg and Luther in Iowa and then St. Olaf in Minnesota. At least with Wartburg and Luther I think you can stack academic scholarships with music ones. Not sure about St. Olaf although I would assume most places let you do that.

I think Chapman meets full need. I believe their financial aid awards do include loans in addition to grants, and work study types of awards.

Check out the University of Cincinnati. We had a major vocal star at our high school get almost a full ride from them. Moreover, they are a terrific school for music with their Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

Catawba College in NC.
