I want to be a Vocal Performance major. Wondering if any certain school had a rep for giving out great scholarships for vocal performance majors (based on your auditions). Have any of you heard of any?

More specifically, how about Ithaca and Concordia?

If you’re a female VP student, talent scholarships aren’t abundant. Simply put, girls, especially sopranos, are the lifeblood of voice programs and there are far more applicants than there are openings. But, schools do award some scholarships and have other help, such as work-study, if you qualify. My D had really good financial aid packages for each of her (now) 4 years and that made it possible for her to attend a top conservatory. It’s out there, and don’t hesitate to ask that question when you visit schools or talk to admissions reps.

Depending on voice type, you may be more likely to get more money based on academic merit than talent. The two together can produce some nice numbers.

Both of my kids (one for VP and one for MT) received their largest scholarships - about 1/2 tuition - for academic merit. The music portion of their scholarships were small in comparison. So, my advice - make sure your grades and SAT scores are the best they can be. Keep in mind that schools like Juilliard and Manhattan do not give “merit” aid. All of their scholarships are given based on a combination of talent and need. If your family does not qualify for need aid, your scholarship offers will be small.

I believe the top music scholarship at Ithaca is $15,000 with no added academic scholarship (but this info is a few years old so double check it!).
