Male vs. Female teachers

NVJBoG could be if you feel it’s a tie or if you think that sweeping generalizations should not be made. Either one.

Although I prefer male teachers, but in the end it all depends on the person. I have quite a few better female teachers too.

male teachers are always way nicer :)

Male, definitely. Some, but not all, female teachers make a big deal out of the littlest things.

Super equal. I don’t really think about gender actually. I guess my male teachers (latin and art in particular) are CHILL and my female teachers that I love are soooo sweet and caring.

Most of my male teachers this year are quite sarcastic. I just enjoy my female teachers’ company more.

I have mostly male teachers (in every high school class except Spanish) because I go to a guys’ school and I guess women don’t feel as comfortable teaching in that environment. I haven’t liked either of my Spanish teachers, but there have been male teachers as well that I’ve disliked. I actually don’t like the majority of my teachers because I don’t think they’re very good and I constantly get the impression that they are bent on putting very little effort into their jobs… but I have had some very good female teachers prior to high school (in public school, where the majority of teachers are female), so I would have to say that I cannot make a judgment on gender.

My two favorite high school teachers have been women, but the third is a man–they run their classes differently, so it generally depends on what mood I’m in.

Would you guys say that it depends on the subject?

Personally, I find male teachers teaching languages/humanities equally close-minded and strict as female teachers in general.

In Maths/Sciences, I find that there is generally a disparity between male and female teachers, with male teachers being less controlling and creating a better learning environment, especially with Bio teachers (most of which are female).

There is a very … bodacious female math teacher in my school. It’s a shame I never had her class :P

maybe I’m biased, but I like male teachers more because they teach sciences better (and I like sciences more).

I don’t understand why they want more females teaching sciences so that they there would be more female role models… when I’ve generally found males as better science teachers. I’d much rather have a good teacher… whether or not female science teachers are better role models for the girls.

Might just be your school; I’ve had excellent science teachers of both genders (Bio and Chem and Tropical Marine Eco = Female; Earth/Space, Astronomy, Ecology = Male). Two of those males and one of those females were actually college professors, though. Now, if you want to talk about funny science teachers…

I prefer the female teachers at my school, because they are the only ones who seem to really care about learning. The male teacher’s classes are easier because we don’t do anything, but almost all of the male teachers at my school are coaches so they care mostly about sports (and help the athletes pass much more readily than anyone else)

definitely male. i feel like they are more willing to go out of the box and teach you the more important part of the course while women teachers just stick to the curriculum and move on to the next thing so they can stay ahead even if no one understands the material.

“Best teacher” comes down to ability over character, and in my case, my best teacher ever was a male. But damn was he intimidating and tough.

^but how would you say a teacher has more ability to teach? Like he knows his stuff better? Or he explains stuff well?

If that’s the case, I’ve had teachers who knew his stuff well, explained the stuff well, cared about his students, and made the class as entertaining as ever. Or maybe I’m just really lucky.

Depends on the subject. English? Female. Science? Male. yes call me sexist, I won’t lose sleep.

Also, are the women teachers TILFs?

Generally, the best teachers I’ve had have been male. I’ve disliked more female teachers than male teachers, but I’ve absolutely hated more of my male teachers. So I guess it’s really a wash. Guy teachers tend to be more laid back, less controlling, etc, which is more suited to me.

Overall, when I think of my favorite teachers in HS, the majority are male. That being said, one of my favorites is my physicz teacher, who’s female. She’s awesome and clueless and great!
