Management Information Systems(MIS) Degree worth pursuing?

My cousin who currently goes to Drexel told me that Management Information Systems is a great degree and that there are a ton of job opportunities and not enough people to fill them, also that they have good salaries. Im interested in IT and he said this is a good mix between IT and business and its an up-coming field thats going to be worth going to school for.

My question is that is this worth majoring in for a bachelors or should i go for something in IT.

I plan on going to University of Austin Texas because they are ranked in the top 10 on US World News for a MIS degree however they dont have IT degrees according to collegeboard. Another college i was looking at is University of Illinois Urbana because they are a very prestigious school however they arent ranked in the top 10 for MIS but they do offer IT courses. Also, is there any other schools that you can possibly direct me too?

EDIT: Would it not be wise to go for a MIS degree at Illinois because they arent ranked for there program?

Im kind of confused here and any guidance/help would be very appreciated! Thank you VERY much!

I don’t know much about UIUC, so I’m not saying UT is better, but I do know that doing MIS at UT’s McCombs would be pretty solid. All my friends at McCombs get a lot of networking for employment. MIS similar to IT, but it’s more about the m part, management. They’re sort of in between the technical and business side of things. If you want to do IT, I think MIS with some CS couses would help.

Thank you! ^^^ Any other help? :s

If you are instate, by all means go to UT. However also look at Minnesota and Arizona because they are in the top 5 for MIS. UIUC is a good choice as well

MIS is very good.

I heard U of A is really good. I go for my MBA there.
