I've been really interested in going to Manhattan School of Music's Precollege division for flute. Does anybody know how hard it is to get in, or more importantly, what the level of playing the kids who audition are at? I am a very dedicated flute player and I am very good so I am not just asking about this without being seriously commited to getting in. Still, I'm nervous that I might not be able to get in, cause eventhough I have been playing pretty long with a teacher, we never seem to really talk about auditioning and he isn't really as experienced as I'd like him to be. I don't think he'd take the idea of me wanting to audition seriously, because most of his students are just there to play better in band class and aren't as involved or advanced.

So basically I need you guys to answer any of the following;

What level are flautists trying out at the end of their middle school or early high school years (9th, maybe even 10th grade if I had to wait that long) be at as far as skills go?

Is the school's program hard to get into?

Should my family invest in another teacher; is the program so hard that I'll need a more serious teacher to prep me?

What is the Manhattan School of Music's precollege division like? What is a typical day?

Any information about the school and auditions (even if you DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT FLUTE AUDITIONS specifically) is very helpful.....

Thanks!
