State's Attorney has upped the ante and lodged manslaughter charges in the death of Florida A&M band member Robert Champion. This is welcome news. Prosecutors need to get the attention of potential perpetrators of ritual student hazing, and the schools, to end this nonsense. The tradition of hazing in college organizations and elsewhere is complete nonsense and it must be eradicated.

These senseless deaths will never stop until universities do what is long overdue: Ban bands from university campuses! Prohibit all students from joining a band!

Bay, you are a very naughty girl ;)

Seriously, this tragic case is even harder for me to understand than the ones involving Greek fraternities and alcohol poisoning. This boy was actually beaten to death; I’ve never heard of this type of hazing and can’t believe the stupidest college student would find this to be a “bonding” activity, which is the usual justification for hazing incidents.

C’mon Bay, your wit misses the mark. Who wants to eliminate college marching bands? Or were you trying to segue to the Penn State mess?
