March 2009 SAT scores

^ I agree  Usually I can figure out some words because they look a lot like the French ones, but this time I had more trouble.

Wait what about that passage with the native american dude? is that average? because that was mad hard.

should I retake a 2180?
CR: 670
M: 710
WR: 800

I didnā€™t do too well in CR but Iā€™m worried about getting lower in WR if I take it a second timeā€¦ any thoughts?

^ I think you should retake it to get your combined M+CR score upā€¦ Plus, if you get lower on writing, thereā€™s always superscoring.

Go for it if you have the money and the time. Some people get great scores on the SAT and then end up getting perfect scores on the ACT and vice versa.

geez i donā€™t get why everyone thought cr was THAT difficult
if youā€™ve properly prepped, you should be thinking that that cr section was godsent!!!

it was definately not hard at all compared to even the cr in the official blue book
btw i scored higher on the actual test than i did in the blue blue practice tests for cr
who knowsā€¦maybe i lucked out because i knew the vocabā€¦that could be a factor.

math is a different story imoā€¦haha

yeah and if one section is ā€œeasierā€ on the next test, chances are, people are gonna complain about a really tough writing section or math sectionā€¦and those writing sections CAN get tough

What about the native american passage? did you find that easy?

there are harder passages in the official bb. I found 2 questions from that passage a bit difficult. but otherwise, no.
just use the bb. trust me. it works. and donā€™t score yourself too high or give urself too high of a range and pick the highest number of the range because too many people do that and get disappointed when their actual SAT score comes.
the bb is the most accurate prep book out there. do all 8 practice tests in testing conditions, and average out the scores.
on the actual sat, thereā€™s actually a lot of luck involved because you may happen to know how to solve a certain math problem or know a certain vocab wordā€¦which can significantly boost your score.
think about HOW many words are in the english language, and how many the SAT uses. Is it possible to memorize them all??? NO WAY.

When you practice using the the BB do you do sections and check you answers after each one or do you take a full practice test?

^ I found that checking my answers at the end of each sections would boost my score. I think itā€™s better to do it all at once, so your score is more accurate.

It might be better to check after each section for the earlier tests, and eventually take good chunks of the last few tests and score them after itā€™s completed. Itā€™ll help you learn while you take the test in the beginning and give you a good estimate of how well you will score.

nahhā€¦ i used that bb the hardcore way

every saturday morning for 3 hrs i would take one practice test, i made up an answer key sheet beforehand, numbered everything, then just went ahead and did the test under actual time conditions (even wrote every essay)

use those 8 practice tests to your FULL advantage. donā€™t do one section, quit, then check the answersā€¦nooooā€¦not with the OFFICIAL sat bookā€¦you can do that with other prep books but donā€™t waste the official one

My scores up are up on collegeboard but not my essay score, why?

Do you guys think the March test was easier or harder in terms of the Math sections, i would not know since this is my first time taking it.

test felt ezier, even though i donā€™t know how i missed 2 on mathā€¦

CR: 790
M: 760
W: 800 (Essay:11)

Score: 2350

math seems the same everytime; you canā€™t really tell if itā€™s ezier or not, cuz most people make careless mistakes on math.

Should I retake? This was my first time taking it, didnā€™t do any practice tests or review anything (I suck at grammar). I got a 740 CR, 800 M, but only 690 W. 9 essay (Iā€™m a little upset with that cause I got an 11 on the ACT essay when I took it for blanks and giggles FRESHMAN yr, now a junior). So, out of 1600, Itā€™s a 1540 and I feel pretty confident I can improve my writing MC score and essay score, and that I can get the same or better on CR. But, math, I know I can do well (mid to high 700s), but donā€™t know if I can get another 800. So, should I retake?

^I think you should, for most schools it doesnā€™t matter if you get an 800 again; they will only consider the original score as it is higher.

I think this is why thereā€™s been such difference in opinion about which sections were hard on this SAT. I was fortunate to know all the CR vocabulary except one (which I easily guessed), while there were a couple math questions I had never seen before. Hence, I thought CR was easy and math was hard. Others had the opposite experience - they knew all the math questions, but some of the vocab/passages were foreign to them.

In all 8 tests of the bluebook, I did one section and checked my answers so I wouldnā€™t forget which questions stumped me and why.

I got a 2140 this time around.

CR 730
M 710
W 700

W MC 64
Essay 11

I normally do pretty well on the writing mc (in november I got a subscore of 78) but this time I seemed to significantly worse (64)?

Did anybody else have a high essay score but low writing mc score?
