Might as well start a separate thread.

Debated ones: Science fair; sifting; in constrast/despite that/moreoever (paragraph edit)

My question: 14Q section 10 writing, the last question. Was it (,but they are) or (,however, they are). I said but because i assumed however would need a semicolon.

I think the last one does require a semicolon so I didn’t put in however.

I think another debated one was #29 about comparing violin playing to other people.

I’m kind of worried about some sentence corrections though I chose the grammatically correct one over the parallel ones, howver I think the parallel ones might have been correct…
Same with paragraph improvement I always feel I’m wrong even when its right. (Did you have to delete a passage)?

I had one where choice was between “but” and “however” though it could have been experimental (I had back to back writing)

@ Taco i Deleted the Mercator background sentence

Ya there was no option for a semicolon.

question 14 of writing was between “but” and “however also”
it was important to consider the “also” part of it… i chose however also but i guessed

however also is redundant/breaks flow/awkward i think

yeahh im not sure how the answer went but i was between B and E

You cannot use however without a semi colon if they are two independent clauses.

OP I think the answer was in contrast because Similarly and Moreover were synonyms and the other two were also synonyms. I put “in contrast” but I’ve heard people in other threads agreeing

Can’t be in contrast, if my memory doesn’t fail me I’m pretty sure the preceding sentence and the next sentence had the same idea, in fact the second sentence stated another point that emphasized the preceding sentence…so im pretty sure moreover is correct…

Isn’t ,however, write. It was the one I picked. It seemed grammatically correct to me.

Let me clarify. I my answer there are two words after the comma. After those two words, there is a ,however, and then it continues on with the sentence. I do not know whether this is right or not. For however, there has to be a semicolon right.

Guys, can anyone tell what my essay grade would be if I couldn’t write the conclusion paragraph and have 1 sentence missing from the body paragraph 2 (The other paragraphs have no grammar error and the 1st body paragraph is quite long and detailed) ?

How much of both pages did you fill up??

Does anyone remember the question about the scientists and the equiments they used. “few” was underlined and I chose that as the error. Wasn’t it suppose to be “less” or am I wrong?

what was the one about the cockroach and bird?

Like birds, cockroaches use magnetic fields, _______.

was it “which they use to navigate,” or “which are used by them to navigate” ?

@jasonjava I am 99.99% sure that it is “which they use to navigate”. It sounds more concise.

I thought it would be ambiguous for they use, but then I realized used by them is also kind of ambiguous although it doesn’t sound like it.
