***March 2016 SAT (US Only) Thread*** |New Redesigned SAT Discussion Thread

I got 1560: 760 Reading/Writing and 800 Math. 99th percentile.

I also got 13 on the essay: 4 Reading, 4 Analysis, and 5 Writing. I don’t know percentiles for this.

A perfect 800 on Math! Nice job. You lived up to your username, @lovesmath . I am assuming you got every question right, or maybe 1 wrong?

How many wrong for a 760 Writing? That’s obviously a super solid score as well. I would say that you are done!

@mollyatz18 not bad but I’m sure you could do much better with some focused preparation. There’s still time for the June test.

Can people please post their section scores, and roughly how many problems they got wrong in the sections? This is for people to see what to shoot for if they want to improve.

@suzyQ7 I’m just concerned that despite getting 35 composite, my 32 in Reading will influence me negatively, especially since I may pursue something in the humanities (not sure yet) though. Is this a valid concern?

No. They will look at your 35, and move on to your essay and ECs. Make your college essay stunning. Read results threads or shut out ivy threads for perspective on the “it” factor.

I’m curious to know whether people generally did better or worse than they thought…

I got a 1450 after a 1400 PSAT. Am I done if my reachiest reach schools are like top 20-30? Do you think this score is good enough to chase some merit for match/safety schools?

Do you think a 1450(97th user percentile) is good enough for my reachiest school(Georgetown)? It is a 2090 on the old SAT and a 1410 on the old SAT(2 part). Will this be enough for merit scholarships anywhere?

@Cocohorse I have the blue book, and it is not helpful at all. If u just want it for the practice tests all the tests are on Khan Academy. I read the entire math section in the blue book and got a 710.

@suzyQ7 What do you mean “shut out ivy threads for perspective on the ‘it’ factor”?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for all your help.

@class0f2017 A 1450 out of 1600 is excellent and most likely 99% on this year’s test, so yes, I do think it’s good enough for that purpose. Congrats!

@ivysource I got 0 wrong on math, 3 wrong on reading, and 1 wrong on writing. My essay, however, is low enough that I’m considering taking the SAT in June… I thought I did okay, but apparently not :(( I was going to retake if I got below 750 reading/writing or 800 math, but I didn’t have any guidelines for myself on the essay, because the format has changed so much.
I got 1510 on the PSAT, so I expected something around this score. I expected something better on the essay though.

I currently have a 35 ACT and now a 1530 on the SAT. Is it worth submitting both or should I hide the SAT score? (My essay portion is better on the SAT. 25 ACT writing vs 7/7/7 SAT essay)

@amenon10 I’m in the same boat as you–around same score–and I was wondering the same thing about it being good enough for the top schools. Honestly, with what concordance tables and percentiles are telling me, where I’m at with my score is kinda frustrating. I’m shooting for around 1550 on the June SAT. Good luck to you, hopefully only improved scores from here

@lovesmath 4/4/5 (out of 6/6/6) is not too bad, but yes I agree that it could be improved relative to your other scores. If it makes you feel any better, relatively low essay scores are a common issue on the new SAT essay and the new ACT essay as well.

@ivysource the essay is out of 8/8/8.

I got 1580 with 790 on both sections. I missed two on reading, no English, and two on math and got 8/6/7 for the essay

There is more than one piece of misinformation on this thread.

@Classof2017 Your score seems to put you right around the 50th percentile for Georgetown. Your 1450 corresponds to an ACT of 32, which is right in the middle of Georgetown’s middle 50th (30-34). So is it possible to get in? Yes, especially if your application has a lot else going for it. On the other hand, if you think you can improve, it might be worth while to attempt to stand out a bit more. Also, a 1450 is definitely enough to get you some merit scholarship money at a number of schools, though I would imagine it may be on the borderline between “toss-me-a-bone” money and real money at some schools.
