March SAT Math Thread

Sure. 6/5 = delta Y/delta X.
6/5 = (y - 7)/(4-7)
Solve for y you get 10.6 or 53/5.

Something like that.

i put k-4… x^2+12=k, so x^12+16 would be k-4, no?

another grid in was 16…for the national debt per person or whatever

The answer is confirmed to be k-4, because the question was:

(x^2 -12) = K
(x -4)(x +4) is what in terms of K.

Do the multiplication, and you get

X^2 -16, which is (X^2 - 12) - 4 or k-4

I also got K + 4. When I foiled (X + 4)(X - 4) and equaled it to X^2 -12, the only way to make the equation balanced was X + 4.

Note: These are all confirmed, except perhaps the TANYA question due to poor memory. Unlike CR, math questions are not debatable…

yeh and 13-7/9-4 is 6/5

The points were (7, y) and (4, 7)

I don’t know where you’re getting 13 and 9 from…?

“53/5”

What was the question for that?

How about the question asking how many 100 mL containers to contain the liquid in a cylinder?

ihatetesttaking, that is totally the wrong way to do the problem.

what was the rationale for the function question, #19, where it was f(x) leading to 6 or something? i couldn’t tell if it was asking for multiplication or a composition of functions, and i got f(1).

For a value N, 2N must be divisible by 8. Which of the following MUST be true?
I. N is divisible by 8
II. N is divisible by 4
III. N is divisible by 2

the answer is I II and III because it doesn’t say it has to be an integer value!

and for the k one the equation was x^2-12=k so therefore for it to work in terms of k it is k+4 because x^2-12=K+4 equals X^2-16

(x+4)(x-4) is NOT x^2 - 12

Xanonymous: Good call.

mabs: experimental

i put k+4 originally but on logic put k-4. im pretty sure k-4 is the answer.

tanya is definitely I.

Frenchwarrior, that’s what the SAT wanted you to think but it’s actually 1. I don’t remember the question word for word but I remember it was f(x) + f(?) = 6. You had to find the X value then look at the Y value. The two Y values would give you X.

For the k+4 question, what was it asking for? I completely forgot this one.

stop talking about tanya, we don’t remember-- whatever

k+ 4 would equal x^2- 8…

I know it was experimental but how the hell do u do the one with the Magazine subscriptions. I ended up just guessing a random number lol, glad it was experimental.
