Marco Rubio disses FSU

While campaigning in Iowa on Monday, Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio issued an incredible burn to Florida State fans via KXNO 1460 AM:

“Look, I don’t have anything against Florida State. I think there has to be a school where people who can’t get into Florida can go to college.”

Rubio (a senator from Florida) went to school at the University of Florida so the comment was all in good fun, but Florida State fans weren’t very happy about it. In fact, they were pretty furious. So furious that Rubio tried to turn down the heat he was getting on Tuesday morning.

FSU President Thrasher responded, “He’s a nice kid. I’m sure he’s frustrated by his low standing in the polls, which I believe could be a reflection of where he got his education.”

Rubio attended Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville before (eventually) being admitted to UF, where he received a B.A. in Political Science. He also holds a law degree from the University of Miami.

Interestingly, the FSU polisci and law programs are ranked higher than the UF and UM programs, according to U.S. News and World Report.
