I completely agree with you here. Society’s inflexible, no-tolerance stance towards alcohol for youth is just as culpable as the binge-drinking culture itself for all the problems that arise with alcohol.
By your tone, it would almost seem you are against masturbation too…Not to mention masturbation and smoking weed produce different pleasures.

Safer than most substances, both legal and illegal.
Shows positive health effects in some cases.
Makes food taste like clouds.
Do not use irresponsibly.

On that note, I’ve smoked it a few times, didn’t enjoy it that much, and probably won’t do it again. But lots of people do enjoy it, and that’s okay.

It’s funny cause a lot of people who have posted on this thread haven’t smoked marijuana before…so how can you really decide what your opinion about it is if you’ve never tried/experienced it before? You’re just kind of bein biased. I mean, you say that marijuana is bad, that it kills your brain cells, etc. Well, let’s see. Holding your breath underwater while swimming kills brain cells, so does standing too close to the tv, as well as just slightly bumping your head with something. Eating fattening and unhealthy food is also bad for you, some might even say it’s worse than marijuana. Basically, marijuana isn’t as bad as other [legal] things out there, like alcohol, msg, and tobacco even. But those are just my two cents :)

EDIT:

Forgot to mention They should just make it legal already. I mean, with all the money the federal government spends in keeping it illegal (jail time, etc) they’re just loosing money. Also, by making it legal wouldn’t the crime rates drop, since a lot of crime is directly related with the selling and distribution of marijuana? Furthermote, the government can’t tell me what I can and can’t do to my body. It should just become legal already :)

Well, pot is hardly rape or murder. It’s just pot. It’s more like saying you hate dr pepper and you’ve never tried it (I do hate dr pepper and I have tried it).

Murder and rape are COMPLETELY different situations. It’s not like you have an option when you get murdered or rape, so there’s not much you can do experience-wise to form a view on the subject. But, on the other hand, marijuana is so prevalent one can easily get there hands on it and experience it first-handedly to create an opinion on it instead of relying on other people’s experiences and/or medical articles.

And don’t get too defensive - I was just putting my two cents in :)

Izzy, yeah, I realized she said she was for legalization - but I wasn’t directing my previous post towards her. I was directing it to those who were biased against marijuana when they’ve never even tried it. They’re just creating their opinions through medical facts/articles and experiences of others, which, truthfully, isn’t even completely valid (at least the latter).

After rereading your post, I realized that you might be contradicting yourself. I pretty much said what you said - how it’s stupid to form an opinion on something when you’ve never even tried it (like the Dr. Pepper example).

@RAlec- Tobacco messes with your brain, alcohol messes with your brain, hell- even caffeine messes with your brain. I’m assuming you think those should all be illegal too, right?

^Because alcohol has been socially accepted since the dawn of mankind. It’d be impossible to make it illegal. Because so many people drink, our brains have already registered it as socially acceptable.

Even so, “just because X is legal and worse” doesn’t justify legalizing another bad thing

It has been made illegal. It didn’t make a difference in lowering crime rates, etc. (as some people believed prohibition would do). People lobbied for the repeal of prohibition and then it happened.
