my son was admitted to both schools and is going to row on the crew teams for each school. apart from ithaca as a D3 and marist being a D1 school, what aspects of each school would you see a positives and those as negative? We are heading out to look at both and Rutgers NB. We’re from san francisco bay area and already have a soph in NY so i’ve been new york and its weather so that’s a known factor. I was just trying to see what other parents/students who had the same choices and how they came to a decision.
He was accepted at Rutgers newark and camden, waitlisted at NB. but that’s the only campus he is interested in going to due to crew.
thanks
3 good schools. Ithaca is way upstate NY and receives an enormous amount of lake effect snow. I know their baseball team gets snowed out of a lot of early spring games. Marist is 90 minutes outside of NYC, metro train is mile away. Its a suburban campus on outskirts of Poughkeepsi. Rutgers is the the largest of the 3 schools and will be the most diverse in student population. New Bruswick isn’t the greatest of cities but if common sense prevails, its a safe area. Camden/Newark are horrible locations and. Camden is one of the worst cities in the country year after year.
Looked at Marist several years ago with my son and loved it. It literally sits on the Hudson River, and the crew team has campus access. Marist also has a great reputation in the NY market for business, fashion and communications. Son ultimately decided on Fordham. However, actually going to visit Marist again this weekend with my daughter, so I may have some additional info.
