Marked absent for my Regents Exam despite taking it!! My exam was never graded!! Help!!!!

I took my earth science exam at my school back in June. I noticed a day later that I was marked as “ABSENT” for the exam, despite having been present in the room and signing in and out for attendance.

I spoke with the head of examinations at my school and she told me that she’s working on it and that my regents grade would be posted that same day on pupilpath…it never happened.

I went back to her the next day and she happened to have my scantron in her hand, saying that she was going to bring the scantron to her office and work on getting the grade up. She told me that my grade would be up within a week. It’s been 9 days and my grade still hasn’t been posted.

I sent an email to the lady, and she is yet to respond to me a day later. This is extremely stressful for me because I was given an exam invitation for August, for an exam that I TOOK!

This exam is also supposed to go towards my advanced regents diploma. On top of that, my earth science teacher told my class that he wouldn’t be writing letters of recommendation for students who opted out of the regents exam/got a bad grade.

Has anyone else ever dealt with this??

[TL;DR]: I was marked absent for an exam that I took, spoke to the head of exams lady who claimed my grade would go up but it never did, she hasn’t responded to my email, I don’t want to re-take an exam that I already took, I’m stressed out.

I think it’s time to get your parents involved.

I think you need to have your parents follow up with the district. Have they spoken to the teacher at all? Start there. If they don’t get a response, ask them to contact your district superintendent.

I never seen this before, but I can offer advice. I’m assuming you’re a rising senior, so tell your teacher about what happened if you want their reccomendation. The advanced regents diploma does not look better for colleges than the regular one, and isn’t necessary. However, it only requires 2 sciences, so living + Chem/physics should be enough. I’d take the regent again if you remmeber most of the material. If you’re not going to be a senior, just take another science and regent. I don’t know who would handle this, but look for a higher up like the doe.

If you are trying to contact someone this week, be aware that the week of the 4th of July is a very popular vacation time. See if you can reach that person again on Monday.

Yes, I think I’ll be taking this up with the district. How would I go about getting in contact with the NYC department of education/the district?

It seems as though this will end with me having to take the exam again, but I’m doing everything I can to not make that the outcome :frowning: I’m sure I’d do well anyway, with the curve and all. I just don’t want to study the material again like I did–I studied for 2 hours a day, everyday, 4 days before the exam. I was hoping to score a 99 like I did with the LOTE and US History regents exams.

I’ll be taking AP environmental next year, so this is the end of my regents run. My earth science teacher told me he wouldn’t write me the letter unless I went out of my way to fix this issue, so I’m kind of hustling right now. Haha
