Decision about New York Regents Exam?

Alright, so I'm scheduled to take the New York Regents mid-week this week, and I'm trying to figure out whether or not I should show up. I will be taking this test two times, so I don't know if I should go to this, and the one in June, or just the one in June. The reason I'm saying this is that the teachers haven't prepared us enough for us to get a good score on this, and I'm reallly confident I'm going to end up with a low score, regardless of how much I study. I know a lot of other people are in this same situation, and I've heard of them too, but I need your thoughts on this. Please don't try and ask me to study or anything, it isn't anything like that.

Basically, would it look bad to have a REALLY low score on a Regents exam, or not show up and have a mark telling schools you didn't show up/no attendance was there. This mainly goes out to SUNY schools, because they look at the Regents, and the ones out of state don't really look at them.

Regents are important.. I don't know the protocol exactly, but I imagine they mark it negatively if you were absent...I would look into that. Maybe you could ask a teacher or a counselor. In any case, you can take the same exam as many times as you need to- and they will look at your highest score. Worst case scenario is you get a low score and you retake it in June.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. Don't show up if you're going to take it twice. I would at least let them know that you're not showing up though.
My transcript from 10th grade shows that I didn't show up for Math A. I wasn't even signed up for it or even supposed to show up for it. (I was doubled up in math for half the year so that I could take the Math B by the end of the year; computer glitch thought I was supposed to have been there since the doubled up course was taken as an audited course).
The funny thing about that? I took the Math A regents in 8th grade.
(Note: I moved after 8th grade down South, and 10th grade I was at a different school for weather related issues... The 8th and 10th grade schools were different).

They'll understand (and not care) if you have an "abs" on your transcript. It's not that big of a deal. For all they know, you could have been sick with pneumonia and in the hospital.

Yea, but if I take it in June, I'll have my admissions decions by then lol, so there's no real point in them looking at the one from June.

Why are you taking a Regents twice, and how will not taking it affect your class grade? Some teachers will fail you or significantly lower your grade if you don't take the test.

To be honest, I don't think it's really that important unless it's important to your teacher/school. If it counts as a midterm or something, take it. Otherwise, I don't think it'll matter too much. If you are applying to SUNYs, you could send them a letter informing them that you're taking it in June if you'd like.

Your question is way too vague - you should talk to your Guidance Counselor to get the right information.

Don't know why you would be taking a Regents twice. Some (Math A, Global, US History, English) are necessary to graduate. Don't miss one of them. Most seniors have already passed them, so I am concerned that you are retaking a failed regents. Some Honors students take the January Regents so that they can move on (Math B, English). Why not take them

In many cases in NY, teachers are not allowed to factor the Regents grade into the course, so the grade is irrelevant. Check with your Guidance Counselor.

No no, I haven't failed any of the Regents lol, that wouldn't happen. :P I'm done with the basic ones. This is for the Math B Regents, it's being given out during both January and June, and I'm only saying I'll take it twice because the teacher has stated most of the material hasn't been covered yet, etc.

THat may depend on the locality because it is definitely not the case here. The Regents exam counts as a full test grade.

If I were you, I'd get into contact with your guidance conselor and your teacher because if you don't show up, you might get penalized in some way. But, it might be best for you to take it in June. The Math B is killer and there's so much on it. You gotta be 110% ready.

Then why are you scheduled for it now. This makes absolutely no sense.

In some classes/schools, they have kids take the Math B in January. For some reason. If it's like that, you might be required to take it in Jan.

People are not scheduled for Regents exams before they have completed the course.

In my school, my French 3 class was given the option to take the French Regents early if we felt like we were ready for it, even though we were only halfway through the course. Everybody decided to take it, and we all passed. Of course, the Spanish class got angry about this, so they didn't let next year's class do it...e_e

It's strange for something like Math B, though...

is it the math a regents?

The Revolution: read post #8.

Regents' can count a lot towards your grade, in my school a january regents counts as a mid-term and a june regents counts as a final, both of which are 10% of your final grad in the class.

YAYAYA got a 92 on my math a regents. oh and go you'll have to take a make up test anyway.

There's a lot of confusion on this point...Check that your school is not violating the state ed dept policy. Some regents can count (if it is after a year long course), but others that are cumulative cannot. Example: I teach Global 10. The Regents exam in June covers 2 years worth of material and therefore I cannot count it as a Final in global 10. Same is true of English, Math A and Math B, and Language exams.
