Marked North African

My dad is from a country in North Africa and would probably be considered olive skinned.

So when I got to the question on the Common App that says "How do you identify yourself?" and couldn't find a section specifically for North African, I chose "Black/African American (Including Africa and the Caribbean)," because of the wording that says "Including Africa." To specify I wrote in "North African."

While I do not consider myself black, I completely consider myself as African. Could colleges rescind my acceptance once they see that I am white and not black, even though I consider myself African and the African American box indicated that it included Africa?

I’m sure you won’t get rescinded, but check this out; Around post number 9 and 18

Here is some text I found on the Common App’s website about this:

“If you choose to answer this question, you may provide whatever answer you feel best applies to you or any groups of which you feel you are a part.”

I 100% feel African. I check African news every day and am always looking out for stuff pertaining to Africa. The more I think about it, it would be more of a lie for me to indicate that I consider myself White/Caucasian.

Even still I am worried that I could be rescinded for not having black skin. Do you guys see this as a possibility? Should I maybe email the schools I applied to clarifying this before acceptances/rejections come out?

Yes but “African” is not the same as black African American.

Thank you Shrinkrap. I have recently read through a lot of that post and understand that I am considered white by the Goverment’s standards. That is why I’m worried. If I was just point blank asked “According to the United State’s Standards, what ethnicity are you?” I would have begrudgingly said White. The CommonApp though asked “What do you consider yourself?” and I consider myself African, and the most relevant section I could find to indicate this was under the African American section just because of the fact that it included Africa.

How do you think this would be viewed by colleges?

If you feel “African” I wouldn’t worry about it. Most people I know from the continent feel like they are from a country there. Like Nigerian.
