What’s the difference between a marketing major and a business administration major with a focus on marketing. Which one is better? I would like to get into management in marketing. Like job titles like an international marketing executive, top channel development executive, top marketing executive, or a marketing director. I plan on getting either a Marketing Major or Business Administration Major with a Focus on Marketing and then go on to getting my masters. I would like to minor in statistics, economics, or communications any suggestions?
It kind of depends on the context. A business administration major with a focus on marketing at University A might be the same as the marketing major at University B. Neither of them is inherently better. Take a look at the course catalog and the requirements for the major, and see which one has the coursework you want.
@juillet Okay thanks! What do you think would be the best for the jobs I listed?
Well, as I said in my post…neither?
Because first of all, we don’t know which schools you’re planning on going to. For example, let’s say that you’re considering a marketing major at Indiana University and a business administration major with a concentration in marketing at Purdue. (I just pulled these out of thin air). The coursework for the marketing major at Indiana might be the exact same coursework as the business administration major with the concentration in marketing at Purdue. They just have different names. It’s kind of like biology and biological sciences are pretty much the same, or a major in public health and a major in community health or health and society probably only have very few minor differences.
And they may be different. The marketing major may be 12 hours of general business classes and 30 hours of marketing classes, while the business administration major with the concentration in marketing might be 30 hours of general business courses and 12 hours of marketing classes.
Second of all, for the jobs you listed either a business major or a marketing major is a good choice. You could go into those careers with either.
@juillet Okay thanks that cleared it up for me!
