So I'm trying to decide on my major since I'm a rising sophomore and majoring in marketing requires me to decide right now. I know I want to get my MBA after (hopefully right after) undergrad and I know that I have a pretty equal chance of getting in whether I pick a degree in marketing or english. I'm leaning towards a degree in marketing because I'm very interested in the classes, but does it seem redundant? Would my time be better spent getting a degree in English (which I've heard helps greatly with the GMATs and which I'm also very interested in)? Thanks.

From what I have heard, It is very rare to get your MBA right after undergrad. Most MBA programs want to see several years of work experience (and they will ask about the experience during interviews). Most who do get in after undergrad will have had great internships and/or have had done something amazing with extracurriculars (i.e. started own business, started some project/initiative…). So do whatever major gets you the job you want after undergrad.

Hmmm… Honestly I haven’t researched it much, but I can’t think of much to do with just an english degree besides a secretary job. In marketing, at least I’d have a specific job, right?

^From what I’ve heard, unless you go to an Ivy League school, it will be hard getting a business job with an English degree.

A marketing degree is probably better.

But more important than either degree choices is what kind of internships you have had during college - they really serve as a springboard into the job you get after college.
